Prayer Request September 2007

Life can come at you fast. One thing after another brings concerns and sorrow, burdens the heart and requires our time. Sometimes it just doesn't seem to stop. But we often forget we can stop anytime we choose and get refreshed, replenished and strengthened by and in Him.

Matthew 11:29
Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

Please pray with us for a friend of our daughter April. She is pregnant and started bleeding today. May God strengthen and help this young mother in this trial.

We also still ask your prayers for the brother of our mother-in-law. Cancer was removed from his colon but he got an infection after the surgery. The cancer has been found in his liver, lungs and the doctor expects even a lymph-node. It's a rare type of cancer and they don't know yet what kind of treatment would be helpful.
May God stretch out His healing hands to him and comfort and strengthen him and his family.

Thank y'all so much!

Times of Testing

He calms the storm,
So that its waves are still.

—Psalm 107:29

Jesus made it clear to His disciples that they would go to the other side of the Sea of Galilee. However, when the storm clouds gathered and winds approached gale force, the disciples lost all vision about where they were going and who had sent them there. The growing swells of the sea and the darkness of the night led them to believe death was a certainty.

The storm must have been tremendous to frighten the seasoned fishermen. Yet Jesus was not taken off guard nor was His deity challenged by its severity. When the disciples woke Him, they were amazed at His ability to command the wind and sea to stop their raging.

Their eyes had been focused on their physical circumstances and not on the One who had the power to rescue them. Jesus could have told them the storm was coming, but He chose to wait and allow them to react to what seemed like an impossible situation. Their faith had to be tested, and they to learn that Christ was their Soruce of help in time of trouble.

Many times, life's afflictions are not the results of sin. The disciples did nothing to cause the storm. In fact, they were very much in the will of God. If the climate of your life is stormy, ask God to reveal the reason for the tempest. In times of testing, God is preparing you for greater service.

Dear Lord, You are my only Source of aid in times of trouble. I call on You for help.

—Charles Stanley, Seeking His Face: A Daily Devotional, (Nashville, TN: Thomas Nelson Publishers, 2002) September 11th entry.

Please pray for Joanie Garrin. Years ago she was hurt at work and had been taking medication prescribed to her by a workman's comp doctor. She has now developed a very serious stomach condition because the medication has eaten away at her stomach lining. Even though the company has received a judgement requiring them to pay for Joanie's treatment, it is much less expensive for them to pay the contempt of court costs than it is for them to pay for Joanie's medical treatment. Joanie has been battleing these problems in court for years, but fears now that she may die in the process. Because of her stomach condition, she is at high risk for developing a blood clot and vomits blood often. She desperately needs to see a gastrologist, but is unable to afford to pay out of pocket. Please pray that God will bless her condition and that he will also bless her to be able to get the medical attention that she desperately needs.

Father, You said that if we ask anything in Your name You'll do it. i'm asking You, Father, to help joanie. i ask to send her a miracle in this situation. send help financially, Lord. i also ask You for favor in her court battles. send her a godly doctor too that could help her with her health. Father, You said that no weapon formed against us will prosper. i trust You, God, to lead her out of this mess soon. may Your blessings be upon her, Father. in Jesus' name, amen.

We would like to ask your prayers for the father of a dear friend of ours.
He has Parkinson's Disease that has progressed to where,at times, the signals from his brain don't reach his heart to urge it to pump, which already has caused black-outs. Please remember him and his family in your prayers!

We also would like to ask prayers for our daughter April, who is pregnant. May the rest of the pregnancy and delivery go well and both mother-to-be and little baby Leo be healthy.

Thank you so much!

A dear friend mailed me this request. I have reworded it slightly to avoid any possibility of publishing secret or private information.

"As some of you know, my nephew is in the Marine Corps...

They left last night for Iraq... He will alternate between driver and gunner in a hum-v. ... my sister and brother-in-law ask that everyone pass this along and remember my nephew and his unit in they're thoughts and prayers dailey. My nephew is a good boy and he is a Christian. We know God will take care of him no matter what happens.

I also have a cousin who has been stationed over there in the Army as a helicopter pilot. We believe he will be coming home soon. Please remember him as well."
